Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about NDIS and our services

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a government program that provides funding to help people with disability live more independently and reach their goals. It supports people to take part in their community, learn new skills, and improve their quality of life.
In Victoria, the NDIS works alongside local and state services so that people with disability can access the supports they need in their own community.

You may be able to receive NDIS support if:

  • You are under 65 years of age when you first apply.
  • You live in Australia and are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder.
  • You have a permanent or significant disability that affects your daily life.

Some children and others may also receive early intervention support if getting help now could make a big difference to their future needs.
If you’re already part of the NDIS when you turn 65, you can stay in the scheme. If you’re unsure about your eligibility, we can help guide you through the process.

Behaviour support, sometimes called positive behaviour support, is a way of helping people who show behaviours that can cause harm or distress. Instead of focusing on stopping the behaviour, we focus on understanding why it happens and what the person needs.
Our goal is to help people feel safe, understood, and supported. This might include:

  • Learning what triggers certain behaviours and finding positive ways to respond.
  • Creating a Behaviour Support Plan that includes clear, kind, and practical strategies for carers and support staff.
  • Working together to build skills and improve quality of life.

Getting started is simple:

  1. Check your NDIS plan to see if behaviour support or therapeutic supports are already included.
  2. If they are, we can begin with an assessment and develop a plan together.
  3. If they’re not included, we can support you or your Support Coordinator to request them in your next plan review.

We’ll make sure the process feels clear, supportive, and respectful from the very beginning.
Please submit a referral through the website and one of our practitioners will be in contact with you.

At Lilac Services, we provide a range of supports, including:

  • Functional Behaviour Assessments
  • Comprehensive and Interim Behaviour Support Plans
  • Training and coaching for families, carers, and staff
  • One-to-one therapeutic and social work support
  • Advocacy and help navigating the NDIS system
  • Ongoing plan monitoring and reviews

Our approach is always person-centred, trauma-informed, and guided by your individual goals and needs.

Our services follow the NDIS price guide and are covered through your NDIS plan when behaviour support or therapeutic supports are included. The cost depends on the type of support, assessment time, and level of complexity.
If you don’t yet have behaviour support funding in your plan, we can help you understand what’s needed and assist in requesting it during your next review. You’ll always receive a clear outline of costs before we begin.

Your feedback helps us grow and improve. You can share any thoughts, suggestions or concerns directly with our team—we take all feedback seriously.
If you feel your concerns haven’t been resolved, you have the right to make a formal complaint to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission). You can find details about how to make that complaint through their online complaint form or by calling 1800 035 544 (TTY: 133 677).
They are the independent body that oversees NDIS providers and can assist if you feel your rights or supports are not being honoured.

You have the right to:

  • Be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.
  • Make choices about your supports and who provides them.
  • Be involved in decisions about your care and goals.
  • Receive services that are safe, inclusive, and culturally sensitive.
  • Give feedback or make complaints without fear of negative outcomes.

At Lilac Services, we’re committed to upholding your rights and ensuring you always feel valued, supported, and in control of your journey.
